Yorktown community leader Tricy Cushner is among 22 women who are named to Senator Greg Ball’s second Annual Women of Distinction Hall of Fame.
The Women Of Distinction Hall of Fame was designed to honor outstanding women from throughout the 40th Senate District. Cushner is being honored for her contributions to the community and was nominated by Yorktown town officials.
“While all those nominated have worked and volunteered without want of recognition, their efforts have not gone without notice or appreciation,” Ball said. “The diversity and depth of their work speaks to the amount of time and dedication each has volunteered on behalf of and in support of a simple truth; that all change is local.”
Cushner has served as the President and CEO for the Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK), Inc. since 2007. ASK is a coalition which works to promote awareness and prevention of substance abuse and other destructive behaviors.
Cushner remains active on the Yorktown School District PTSA Council, Wellness Committee, PS We Care, Foundation for Excellence, Drug Crisis in Our Backyard, Yorktown Organizations United. She is also a member of the Yorktown Lions Club.
She is also a producer for Hang Tough Film, LLC, a production company that supports local writers/directors in their efforts to create feature films. Cushner lives in Yorktown with her husband and three teenagers.
In 2012 she was awarded the Yorktown Lions community service award. She had also previously won the ‘Yorktown Dancing with the Stars’ award for a Relay for Life fundraiser.
Among the rest of the nominees is Somers’ town historian Doris Jane Smith. Smith, an art teacher at Primrose School, has been a member of the Somers Historical Society for almost half a century, where she served as the co-chair for the Town’s Bicentennial Committees, Chair of the Museum and Reis House Committees and Co-chair of the Education Committee.
The Women Of Distinction Hall of Fame will be hosted on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 at the Putnam County Emergency Services Building in Carmel starting at 2 p.m.
The honorees will also be included on a ‘Traveling Wall of Fame’ that will be on display throughout Senator Greg Ball district. (ARTICLE)
