PURPLE HEART HOMES PROJECT KICKS OFF JUNE 14TH WITH RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY

 

    Ribbon Cutting To Take Place on Flag Day

    Brewster, N.Y. – 06/11/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I –Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, has joined the Purple Heart Homes organization to remodel the home local Vietnam War Veteran Dan Flanigan.

    Senator Ball and Purple Heart Homes are currently working to upgrade the home of Private Daniel Flanigan, a 100 percent service-connected disabled Vietnam Veteran who lives in Pawling. An official kickoff ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Flag Day, Saturday, June 14th in Pawling, NY.

    “It is heartwarming to see the immense community support we have received since we first made this announcement. Hundreds of local elected officials, financial institutions, small businesses and community partners have stepped up to the plate,” said Senator Greg Ball. “If you would like to join our Purple Heart Homes Senate Task Force and join our honorable efforts to give Dan the welcome home he so rightfully deserves, please contact my office today.”

    Private Daniel Flanigan, a 100% service-connected disabled Vietnam Veteran has been selected after a thorough vetting process by Purple Heart Homes, a non-profit based in Statesville, NC that provides housing solutions for disabled veterans.

    Dan Flanigan inherited his parent’s home in Pawling, NY in 1999. Dan like many Vietnam service-connected disabled veterans lives on a fixed income. The home he lives in is 100 years old and is known as a stately four square home situated on the crest of a hill on Spring Street in Pawling, NY.

    As of this week, dozens of contractors and volunteers willing to donate supplies and services have committed to the cause. Fundraising volunteers, professional building and trade volunteers, building materials and monetary donations are all being accepted. All donations are tax deductible.

    Building materials needed include: asphalt shingles, replacement windows, kitchen cabinets, hardwood flooring, paint, tiles, framing lumber for the front and rear porches, bathroom fixtures, bathroom toilet, shower, bathroom vanity, lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, electrical supplies, dry wall, insulation and appliances.
