Amherst, NY – State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer has announced today that he will host a Family Health Fair on Saturday, August 4th  from 9 a.m. to noon at the Amherst Senior Center, 370 John James Audubon Parkway.

“More than 80 vendors will offer their services free of charge – and no reservations are necessary.  I hope that residents will take advantage of all of the screenings and information available at my upcoming Family Health Fair.  By joining us on August 4th, you can start to live a healthier lifestyle so that you’ll be one step closer to getting a clean bill of health the next time you visit your doctor for a check-up,” said Ranzenhofer.

The 2012 Family Health Fair, previously sponsored and organized by former Assemblyman Jim Hayes, is co-sponsored by Kaleida Health and the Amherst Senior Center, in conjunction with Assemblyman Raymond Walter and Assemblywoman Jane Corwin.

“It is an honor to be sponsoring the Family Health Fair for the first time.  For many years, Assemblyman Jim Hayes did a fantastic job organizing this event.  After speaking with him after he announced his retirement from the State Assembly last September, I offered to sponsor the health fair in the future.  I am so pleased to be able to carry on this tradition and continue to provide the residents of our community this great healthcare resource,” said Ranzenhofer.

Among the screenings and services that will be provided are: blood pressure checks, cholesterol screening, glucose test, medicine/prescription review, retina scans, mini-reflexology sessions, prostate cancer screening, bone density heel scans, Child ID cards and car seat safety checks.

Information will also be available on the following topics: stroke prevention, chiropractic care, EPIC, dental health, Alzheimer’s Disease, Medicare, substance abuse, Venous Disease, heart health, nutrition, cancer support, Parkinson’s Disease, Empower NY Program and Organ Donation.

“The Family Health Fair will be both fun and educational, providing everyone in our community access to important screenings and information that will ensure a happy, healthy life. The medical professionals at Kaleida Health are a fantastic resource for Western New Yorkers, and I hope that many families get the chance to stop by our event and take advantage of all they have to offer,” said Walter.

“There is nothing more important than the health of you and your family.  This year, I am proud to work with Senator Ranzenhofer, Assemblyman Walter and Kaleida Health in sponsoring the 2012 Family Health Fair.  This event promotes maintaining good health and a healthy lifestyle, and provides free health services to our community.  Given the vast number of health related organizations participating at this year’s event, there definitely is something for everyone. People of all ages will find value in the information and free services offered,” said Corwin.
