Ranzenhofer joins Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Campaign

State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer today has joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Campaign to encourage New York women to take advantage of the Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness month,” said Senator Ranzenhofer.  “Some women may neglect their own health while taking care of their family and others.  That is why we want to send out the message that when you take care of yourself, you’re taking care of your family.

Whether for emotional support or to find out how to get a free or low-cost mammogram, the hotline is available seven days a week for women all across Western New York.”

Any New York State resident concerned about breast cancer can contact the Adelphi NY Breast Cancer Hotline at (800) 877-8077 to speak with specially trained, professionally supervised volunteers for information, referrals and emotional support.  Callers can receive emotional support from someone who has had a similar experience, since most of the volunteers have had breast cancer.

The toll-free breast cancer hotline receives almost 4,000 calls each year.  It is a project of the Adelphi University School of Social Work on Long Island.  All services are free.

Questions can be about: Early detection, Mammography, Second opinions, Finding an appropriate physician, Insurance Coverage related to breast cancer, Locating convenient support groups, Breast reconstruction, Concerns about recurrences, Understanding choices about medical treatment and Dealing with the side effects of treatment.
