Ranzenhofer to sponsor blood drive at Family Health Fair
Amherst, N.Y. – Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer will be sponsoring an open-to-the-public blood drive with Unyts during the Family Health Fair on Saturday, August 3rd from 9 a.m. to noon at the Amherst Senior Center.
To schedule an appointment to donate blood, residents can contact Unyts at (716) 512-7940.
“One person needs blood every two seconds. Your blood donation helps families, friends and neighbors right here in Western New York and can save up to three lives. I encourage residents to schedule an appointment to help save lives at my Family Health Fair,” said Senator Ranzenhofer.
“We are so thankful to be able to call Senator Ranzenhofer a partner in blood donation,” said Mark Simon, Unyts President & CEO. “The commitment that the Senator has made to supporting Unyts will not only help our local hospitals, but the community as a whole.”
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors should bring valid photo identification, wear comfortable clothing and drink more fluids than normal on the day of the drive.
Headquartered in Buffalo and established in 1981, Unyts is among the leading procurement organizations in the United States, and is the only organization of its kind nationwide to offer opportunities for organ, eye, tissue and blood donation. Unyts operates as a not-for-profit serving the eight counties of Western New York and is part of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
Since beginning collections in June 2007, Unyts has already become the primary supplier of blood products for ECMC, the entire Kaleida Health System and six hospitals in Niagara and Wyoming Counties.
