Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins: Westchester County Department of Social Services to Receive over $400,000 in Green Jobs Program Funding; Grant to be Used to Provide "Green" Industry Job Skills Training

    State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/WF – 35th District) announced
today that the Westchester County Department of Social Services was awarded
$475,100 under the “Green Jobs/Green New York program.  The grant will be
administered through the New York State Office of Temporary Disability
    Assistance (OTDA).

“This is a crucial investment in hard working New York families,”
stated Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins.  “Providing individuals who lost
their jobs due to our ailing economy with the skills to perform the jobs of
the 21st Century will greatly benefit all of us.  I am pleased Westchester
DSS has partnered with the State to participate in this tremendous
    program.”

Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins said that the Green Jobs/Green New
York initiative passed the Senate with broad bipartisan support back in
September.  The program is designed to revitalize distressed communities,
create jobs, and promote energy savings.  One aspect of the program, which
Westchester DSS is participating in, provides workforce training created by
the New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA)
    throughout the State.

“This program will create jobs, put people back to work and in turn,
help get our economy back on track,” concluded Senator Andrea
    Stewart-Cousins.
