SENATOR BALL ACCEPTS BREWSTER VETERAN INTO 3RD ANNUAL VETERANS HALL OF FAME
Brewster, N.Y. – (10/03/2013) – Senator Greg Ball, (R,C,I-Patterson) Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, has officially accepted the nomination of Staff Sergeant Steven Mattson from the Village of Brewster into his 3rd Annual Veterans’ Hall of Fame.
The Veterans’ Hall of Fame was created by Senator Ball, and designed to honor outstanding veterans from throughout the 40th Senate District. Each veteran will be honored at a ceremony hosted in November at Mahopac High School and will also be included on a traveling wall that will tour local municipalities throughout the 40th district.
“It is my pleasure to accept the nomination of Staff Sergeant Steven Mattson into the Veterans’ Hall of Fame. Steven has selflessly served our country in Iraq and upon his return has continued to serve through his community service and his “Adventures Around Putnam” initiative,” said Senator Greg Ball. “America is not a great country because of its politicians, it’s a great country because of its veterans like Steven.”
Steven Mattson lives in Brewster, NY with his wife and three children. He has worked in the financial services industry for 15 years. He served in Iraq with the United States Marine Corps, and is active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Putnam County Land Trust and Cub Scout Pack 1. Steven is a freelance author whose work has appeared in local newspapers and area guides. His love for exploring nature and local history has led him and his family on numerous adventures around Putnam including writing the book and creating the website, “Adventures Around Putnam.”
“The best part of being nominated for this award is the message it sends my kids. They see by my example that it is important to give back to the community, and Veterans have a special place within our community,” said Mattson.
Towns, villages and cities throughout Senator Greg Ball’s district are currently in the process of selecting their nominees. If you would like to nominate someone, please contact your local town board or city council or contact Senator Ball’s office at (845) 279-3773.
