SENATOR BALL HONORS CORTLANDT WOMAN FOR HER WORK ON CROTON 9-11 MEMORIAL

 

    Brewster, N.Y. – 7/17/2013 – Janet Mainiero has been honored as the Town of Corltandt’s nomination for the 2nd Annual Women of Distinction Hall of Fame, hosted by Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson).

    “I am excited to accept Ms. Mainiero as the Town of Cortlandt’s selection for the 2nd Annual Women of Distinction Hall of Fame,” said Senator Greg Ball. “Ms. Mainiero has accomplished so much for our community and has selflessly dedicated her time to honor those that lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on 9-11.”

    After working her way up from an executive secretary to a stockholder analyst Ms. Mainiero left the Gillette Company after 20 years, to pursue Urban Planning. Ms. Mainiero received her Bachelors and Masters degree from the Urban Planning Department of Boston University and took at job at the Massachusetts Water and Resources Authority (MWRA) as a Field Assistance for the first major sewer interceptor project. Ms. Mainiero then moved to New York, where she oversaw the environmental impact statements for various railroad extensions for the Metro North Railroad. After retiring from Metro North, Ms. Mainiero spearheaded the effort to obtain salvaged steal from the fallen World Trade Center and create a memorial, in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11th. Ms. Mainiero organized volunteers and established a 501(c)(3) Foundation to raise funds for the memorial. The first phase was built on the shores of the Hudson River in Croton Landing and dedicated on September 11, 2012.

    Created and hosted by Senator Ball, The Women Of Distinction Hall of Fame was designed to honor outstanding women from throughout the 40th Senate District. Towns, villages and cities district-wide have selected their nominees for the hall of fame ceremony which will be hosted in Carmel this September.

    The ceremony will be hosted on Saturday, September 8, 2013 at the Putnam County Emergency Services Building in Carmel starting at 2pm.
