SENATOR BALL HOSTS FIRST RESPONDERS APPRECIATION DAY AT CAMP KIWI

 

     

    Carmel, N.Y. – (7/07/12) – Senator Greg Ball (R, C-Patterson), hosted over a thousand first responders and veterans to a complimentary day of family fun at Camp Kiwi in Carmel.

    The First Responders Appreciation Day was organized by Senator Ball and hundreds of volunteers to thank the police officers, fire fighters, EMT workers veterans and correction officers that continue to protect our freedom and keep us safe day in and day out.

    “Our first responders, correction officers and veterans have put their lives, and continue to put their lives, on the line to protect our citizens and nation everyday,” said Senator Greg Ball. “This was a great day, thanks to Camp Kiwi, all of the restaurants and volunteers, for the community to come together to thank those men and woman that have served, and continue to serve, our great nation.”

    The day of fun included a BBQ, sampling of food from over twenty local restaurants, batting cages, petting zoo, basketball courts, miniature golf, a swimming pool and a helicopter flyover.

    “I appreciate Senator Ball and the office for doing this. It is great for us to be able to kick back and take it easy,” said Danny Moran, Somers Volunteer Fire Department Member and Mahopac resident. “All first responders and veterans have stepped up for us, so now it’s time that we stepped up for tem.”

    “This is our 60th year and we’re happy to help police, veterans, and first responders and give back to them,” said Ivan Bellotto, the owner of Camp Kiwi. “They do so much for the community and the people. When Senator Ball picked our camp to host this event we just knew it was a great match.”

    Over 30 local businesses donated their services and food to say thank you to the men and women that have served our county. The businesses included: Camp Kiwi, Pepsico, Ace Endico, Krasdale Foods, A&S Fine Foods, Stew Leonard’s, Suburban Carting Company, Patterson Tractor Supply, Blues Buddah Band, 151 Grill & Bar, Bucci Deli, Village, Social Kitchen & Bar, Paola’s Pizzeria and Pasta, Somers 202 Restaurant & Grill , Arturo’s Tavern, Sweet Delites Pastry Shop, Fiesta Mexicana, Traditions 118, Patterson Deli, Aversano’s Restaurant & Pizza , D’Amato’s Italian Deli and Brick Oven Pizza, Seasons An American Bistro & Lounge, Le Fontane Restaurant , Sea Chic, Chloe, Madison Creations, Ramma’s Bagels and Route 6 Bistrant.

    Cory McLaughlin, the owner of Sea Chic restaurant in Mahopac, served southern fried chicken, asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and provolone cheese and potatoes.

    “I have uncles that are veterans. I support what Senator Ball is doing and I am happy to be a part of it,” said Cory McLaughlin. “Anyone who is directed at helping others has a decent heart, I’m all for that.”

    Maria brown was at the event to show appreciation for her late father, a World War I veteran, and her son who currently serves as a Fire Fighter.

    “They put their life on the line everyday and I am 100% behind them all. To show them this appreciation is a great thing,” said Maria Brown of Mahopac. “I am thankful for Senator Ball and I am happy to be here today.”

    “It takes a special human being to put on a uniform and serve,” said Willie Nazario, a veterans advocate. “I am a Vietnam combat veteran, when we came home we didn’t have anything like this. It is very gratifying to see that everything has taken a 180. This is beautiful; we don’t have enough of these events.”
