SENATOR BALL PRESENTS $50,000 GRANT FOR TOUGHKIDS MULTISPORT PROGRAM
Ball Fights Childhood Obesity, Urges Kids To Get Involved
Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. – (9/9/2013) – According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years. Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson) has teamed up with TOUGHKids Multisports School Program to combat childhood obesity and diabetes, and is urging kids to get involved!
Senator Ball presented a $50,000 state grant to the TOUGHKids Multisport School Program at their 2013 TOUGHKids Championship Triathlon at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, NY on Saturday morning.
“Currently, about one of every three kids and teens is overweight or obese, causing a wide range of health problems that previously haven’t been seen at such a young age. It’s time for our youth to get active! The TOUGHKids Multisport Program is a great way for our kids to get involved and combat childhood obesity and type two diabetes,” said Senator Greg Ball. “I am excited to work with Doctor Richard Izzo and his team to get students involved and excited about fitness.”
The TOUGHKids Multisport program is aimed at motivating kids in schools to stay active and to get involved in triathlon and other events. Last year, 5 schools in New York State had over 5,000 kids and teens participate in the program.
In 2014, the Multisport program will be traveling to schools in April, May and June. The program will spend two days at each school with the goal of increasing interest in getting kids to move and get involved in endurance activities.
“Having the support of New York State, specifically Senator Greg Ball shows a commitment to kids health, especially the fight against childhood obesity. Our TOUGHKids triathlons and Multisport school program gets kids to focus on participation and the concept of “YOU CAN,” said Dr. Richard Izzo, founder of TOUGHKids Triathlon. “In this way, starting at 4 years old, our youth can practice good habits and learn to live a healthy lifestyle which will help in every part of their lives.”
TOUGHKids has twenty spots open for schools in 2014. Any school that wishes to apply should contactrizzo@TOUGHKidstri.com or 914-536-0521.
