Brewster, N.Y. – 1/26/2013 – On Friday, February 1st at 4pm Senator Greg Ball’s (R, C, I– Patterson) Student Advisory Council will host their first meeting of the new year. The Student Advisory Council consists of students from High Schools across the 40th Senate District.
The Student Advisory Council was put in place by Senator Ball to work on issues that are important to students. Last year the council focused on organizing a mock legislative session. Students traveled to Albany and had the ability to introduce, debate and vote on legislation on the New York State Senate floor.
“When I was a student I wanted to get involved but felt my elected officials were unapproachable,” said Senator Greg Ball. “I really wanted to change that perception once elected. It’s so important that we encourage our youth to get active and involved in our communities.”
“This is a wonderful opportunity for kids throughout Peekskill to get a firsthand experience of how state government works. I salute Senator Ball for establishing this Student Advisory Council and encourage all our students to get involved,” said Peekskill City School District Superintendent, Jim Willis.
“Our students enjoyed traveling to Albany to take part in last year’s mock legislative session. They felt a real pride and joy from participating in the event,” said Peekskill High School Principal, Fred Hutchinson.
“As chairman of the Student Advisory Council since its inception, I am proud to say that Senator Ball has given the youth of his district a voice,” said Steven Youssef of Carmel High School. “It is empowering to know that we have input on the future of the country through this forum. Senator Ball is a very approachable leader.”
“Last year, the mock senate session was a huge success among both the students who participated and the teachers who witnessed it,” said co-chair of the Student Advisory Council Drew Podgorski. “I am looking forward to tackling some of the many issues that face students today.”
Senator Greg Ball is currently seeking additional highly motivated and determined students to join his advisory council. If you are interested in joining please contact Steven Youssef or Drew Podgorski at (845) 279 – 3773 or email@example.com.
