South Salem, N.Y. – (2/8/2012) – On Wednesday, February 8th, Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) paid a visit to the Lewisboro Senior Adult Group at the South Salem firehouse for some coffee, cake, and to talk about some of the issues the senior community in the area is coping with.

The group meets on Wednesdays from 10 am to 3 pm at the South Salem firehouse, a space being provided by the South Salem Board of Fire Commissioners, given that the group does not yet have its own social space.

“It’s critical during the tough economy to keep a finger on the pulse of what’s happening with these groups,” Senator Ball said.  “I am working to secure needed funding for meal programs and senior programs throughout the district, I’m fighting to freeze school taxes for seniors and constantly working to support the concerns of individual constituents throughout my district.”

The Lewisboro Senior Adult Group was organized in 1966 and is now headed by Senior Adult Director Pamela Veith and the Executive Board.  Veith and the board provide for 50+ senior programming, which includes:  special holiday luncheons; card and table games; gardening tips from growers from a local nursery; and professional entertainment as well as entertainment from the center’s very own "Over-the-Hill Players and Singers.”  A separate book group and a knitting group also meet monthly at the center.  Medicare updates are also provided.

The center also offers 8 to 9 day-trips per year on a comfortable coach bus.  Past events include: a shopping trip to Arthur Avenue in the Belmont section of the Bronx; trips to The Discovery Museum at Times Square, the Westchester Broadway Theatre, and the Big Apple Circus; and a visit to the Mohunk Mountain House.

To join the group, access the “white bus” service, or request a newsletter on the services and activities mentioned, please call the Lewisboro Parks & Recreation Department at (914) 232-6162.
