Senator Flanagan Appearing On Cablevision's Meet The Leaders

Senator John J. Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently had the opportunity to join host Patrick Halpin to tape an upcoming show of Cablevision's Meet the Leaders program.  During the half-hour segment, which will be on Cablevision throughout the month of November, Senator Flanagan and Halpin discussed a wide variety of topics in an effort to update Long Islanders about the important issues in New York State.

The show included an update on the budget crisis and a thorough discussion of Senator Flanagan’s opposition to the budget cuts that Governor Paterson has proposed.  In his discussion, Senator Flanagan repeated his belief that in place of these cuts, the state should be more creative by providing incentives to businesses and removing harmful regulations in an effort to stimulate the economy.  Senator Flanagan had publicly called for this type of approach during budget discussions back in April.

Senator Flanagan also outlined his continued opposition to the MTA Payroll Tax, which he voted against, and his continued efforts to repeal this harmful tax as the state approaches the November 2nd deadline for businesses to file their first installment under this new policy.

The two also had a wide-ranging discussion about Senator Flanagan’s role as a member of the Monserrate committee and his continued work with Attorney General Andrew Cuomo on important issues like reforming the state’s pension system and consolidating the multiple special districts which add to the burden Long Island taxpayers face.
