Senator Flanagan Secures Grant For New Smithtown Library Van

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) joined with the leaders of the Smithtown Special Library District as they unveiled the library’s new van into service.  The cost of the van, which will replace an older broken down van the library system had used for years, was offset by a $17,000 grant Senator Flanagan secured through the New York State Department of Education.

The new van will be used by the district to transport items and supplies throughout the library system, which is the 7th largest in New York State.  This will include transporting books, videos and other items between their four branches so that their collection is accessible to all Smithtown residents.

“The Smithtown Special Library District plays a valuable role in both the social and educational lives of the residents of the Town of Smithtown and this new van will help them maintain their outstanding level of service to our community.  I am glad to be able to partner with them help provide everyone with access to all material regardless of the branch they visit and to make it the most user-friendly library system possible,” stated Senator Flanagan.
