Senator Foley Takes Part in Puerto Rican-Hispanic Day Parade

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) marched today in Adelante’s annual Puerto Rican-Hispanic Day Parade in Brentwood.

Hundreds braved the heat to march in the parade and thousands more lined the parade route to cheer them on. Senator Foley was recognized as a 2010 Parade Honoree for his work to support Adelante and the community as a whole.

“I am humbled to be recognized by an organization like Adelante, which is one of the most well-respected organizations in the Brentwood community,” said Senator Foley. “I congratulate Adelante on another successful parade and congratulate my fellow honorees. I look forward to continuing to work with Adelante to further the goals of the programs they run for our community’s youth, families and mentally disabled.”

The Puerto Rican-Hispanic Day Parade is in its 44th year. It is aimed at celebrating the heritage of the Puerto Rican and other Hispanic communities on Long Island, and their contributions to the Islip Town community.

“The Hispanic community on Long Island is a major part of the fabric of Long Island,” said Senator Foley. “Its members contribute greatly to our community through public service and the activities of the various organizations they have founded. Events like today’s parade are a chance to not only celebrate the diverse heritage of the Hispanic community but also to recognize its place within the larger Long Island community.”
