South Salem, N.Y. – (9/10/12) – Senator Greg Ball (R,C-Patterson), was at the Lewisboro Library on Monday night to officially accept the town boards nomination of Ray Stone into Senator Greg Ball’s 2ndAnnual Veterans’ Hall of Fame.

The Veterans’ Hall of Fame was created by Senator Ball, and designed to honor outstanding veterans from throughout the 40th Senate District. Each veteran that will be honored will be included on a traveling wall that will tour local municipalities throughout the 40th district.

Ray Stone enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 years old. He served on the USS Intrepid from 1943 through 1945. During his time he survived seven major attacks on the ship including five kamikaze attacks and two torpedo attacks. Ray currently serves on the Former Crew Members Association of the USS Intrepid that meets every month on the ship. Mr. Stone gives tours of the ship and says he enjoys answering questions that visitors have.

“This is an amazing honor. To be honored like this, I feel like I am honoring all who served in all branches of the service,” said Ray Stone. “To me it means if they honor me, they honor all.”

“I am honored to accept the nomination of Mr. Stone! Lewisboro has hand-picked Ray because he has chosen a path of courage, honor, integrity and bravery, a path that helped shape America as we know it, protecting our way of life and liberty,” said Senator Greg Ball. “America is not a great country because of its politicians; it’s a great country because of our veterans.”

“First he is my neighbor and second and more importantly he is my friend. I admire the living daylights out of him,” said Lewisboro Town Supervisor Peter Parsons. “I have met other’s that served on that ship with Ray and they are a good bunch of people, they are the reason we live as we do today.”

The 2nd Annual Veterans Hall of Fame Ceremony will be held at Peekskill Middle School on Thursday, November 1 at 6pm, with a light reception to follow.
