SENATOR GREG BALL ACCEPTS MAHOPAC VETERAN INTO SENATE HALL OF FAME

Mahopac, N.Y. – (9/18/12) – Senator Greg Ball (R,C-Patterson), was at the Carmel Town Hall on Wednesday night to officially accept the town board’s nomination of Joseph Toleno into Senator Greg Ball’s 2nd Annual Veterans’ Hall of Fame.

The Veterans’ Hall of Fame was created by Senator Ball, and designed to honor outstanding veterans from throughout the 40th Senate District. Each veteran that will be honored will be included on a traveling wall that will tour local municipalities throughout the 40th district.

Joseph Toleno enlisted in the U.S. Army in December 6th 1962 and served for three years in Vietnam. Toleno achieved many medals for his service including: Air Medal for Valor, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Parachute Badge, Army Medal of Accommodation, NYS Conspicuous Service Cross and many more.

“It feels good, but I personally don’t think I am as deserving as some other veterans. I don’t feel that I have done anything spectacular; I did my job and came home,” said Joesph Toleno. “I am out here not to say, what I am and who I am; I am out here to say, how can I help? When I am able to help a veteran secure benefits it puts a big smile on my face; I think to myself, lets do it again tomorrow!”

After Joseph’s military service he served two years as post commander of American Legion 1080, founded Marta Raye Chapter 541 Vietnam Veterans of America in Putnam County and he also spearheaded the Joplin Missouri Relief Fund.

“I am honored to accept the nomination of Mr. Toleno! Mahopac has hand-picked Joseph because he has chosen a path of courage, honor, integrity and bravery, a path that helped shape America as we know it, protecting our way of life and liberty,” said Senator Greg Ball. “America is not a great country because of its politicians; it’s a great country because of our veterans like Joe.”

“This is a very well deserved honor for Joe Toleno. He served this Country with distinction and honor during Vietnam War. He has received numerous citations and honors during his years of service. Joe is a community-oriented person that is veryu involved in many civic groups,” said Carmel Town Supervisor Ken Schmit. “Mr. Tolen is a great guy that cares deeply about community and helps out whenever he can. I am very honored and proud to have nominated him for Senator Greg Ball’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame.

The 2nd Annual Veterans Hall of Fame Ceremony will be held at Peekskill Middle School on Thursday, November 1 at 6pm, with a light reception to follow.
