SENATOR GREG BALL ANNOUNCES SEVEN CONSTRUCTION GRANTS FOR LOCAL LIBRARIES

 

    Albany, N.Y. – 6/20/2013 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) has announced that state grants have been awarded to a  total of seven libraries in the 40th Senate District totaling $231,420 for construction and renovations.

    The libraries that will receive the grants are, Patterson Library Association in Patterson, Croton Free Library in Croton-on-Hudson, Hendrick Hudson Free Library in Montrose, Hiram Halle Memorial Library in Pound Ridge, John C Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak, Lewisboro Library in South Salem and Ruth Keeler Memorial Library in North Salem.

    “I couldn’t be happier to announce these grants for libraries across my district. This will help many of these libraries make much needed upgrades and provide the best possible service and technology to the residents they serve,” said Senator Greg Ball. “I will continue to fight for our libraries and education system to bring as much of our tax money back from Albany, home where it belongs.”

    The New York State Library has awarded a total of 170 construction grants to public libraries and public library systems throughout New York State. These grants are supported by a $14 million capital fund appropriation in the 2012 State Budget for construction and renovation of public libraries and public library systems in New York State.

    Patterson Library Association in Patterson was awarded $21,106 to complete outstanding exterior projects and create a new technology lab for a renovated interior space, to improve access and increase disadvantaged populations’ skills.

    Croton Free Library in Croton-on-Hudson was awarded $56,578 to improve efficiency and services includes replacing the circulation desk with larger, better-designed desk, and enlarging the area behind desk, adding storage and work space.

    Hendrick Hudson Free Library in Montrose was awarded $23,607 to improve  public safety and building access by repairing the main entrance doors and making improvements to the security cameras.

    Hiram Halle Memorial Library in Pound Ridge was awarded $19,255 to replace railing, siding, windows, and trim which is saturated with lead paint and replace with Hardiplank siding and insulated windows.

    John C Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak was awarded  $61,914 for their Children’s Room Project to enlarge the Children’s Story Hour room by 45%, install a self-checkout system, consolidate and expand computer access, enhance the Toddler area, update the reference desk and allow more natural light in.

    Lewisboro Library in South Salem was awarded $36,710 to replace its existing flat membrane roof and skylight in order to reduce energy costs and improve natural lighting.

    Ruth Keeler Memorial Library in North Salem was awarded $12,250 to install a generator which will prevent continual flooding when sump pumps fail;  and a water chlorination system as E-coli and coliform are present in library’s well water.
