Albany, N.Y. – 06/20/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I –Patterson) issued the following statement regarding the legalization of medical marijuana in New York State.

“By rejecting smoking as a delivery vehicle and embracing smokeless vapor, oils and pills, New York will be able to compassionately help those suffering from a wide range of medical conditions, without recklessly worsening our current drug culture. However, the fact that this legislation gives very broad discretion to the state Commissioner of Health, instead of the FDA, deeply concerns me. The bill broadly allows one person to completely modify this piece of legislation, to broaden the conditions eligible for medical marijuana, changing the methods of delivery to include smoking and more. For that reason, I cannot support this legislation and that’s why I have voted no,” said Senator Greg Ball.
