SENATOR GREG BALL JOINS MAHOPAC LADIES AUXILIARY TO DELIVER WINTER CLOTHING TO HUDSON VALLEY VETERANS

Mahopac, N.Y. – 12/09/2013 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, joined the Mahopac VFW Post 5491 Ladies Auxiliary on Sunday to deliver much needed winter clothing to Hudson Valley veterans.

Veterans at both the Montrose and Castle Point Hudson Valley VA Hospitals are in need of t-shirts, diabetic socks, underwear, warm coats, gloves and hats for the winter. To meet the challenge, Senator Ball has mobilized his Faith Based Advisory Council and Veterans Advisory Councils to host an immediate clothing drive for Hudson Valley veterans that are in need of warm clothes this winter.

On Sunday, the Mahopac VFW Post 5491 Ladies Auxiliary delivered large bags of shirts, socks, underwear, sweaters, pajamas and more to the veterans at Castle Point VA Hospital. Senator Greg Ball will continue the clothing drive to deliver clothing to the veterans at Montrose VA Hospital later this month.

“I would like to thank the Mahopac Ladies Auxiliary, the Kent Seniors and Tracy Griffin for collecting all this much needed clothing for our veterans. This clothing will go a long way to ensure that our veterans at Castle Point are well dressed this winter. We have a total of six drop off locations that my Faith Based and Veterans Advisory Council have organized where residents can drop off clothing. Shortly, we will be gathering the clothing from these drop off locations and bringing it down to Montrose VA Hospital,” said Senator Greg Ball. “It is sad to think, but many of our local Hudson Valley veterans are in need of warm clothing for the winter months ahead. Our veterans have given so much for us, and it breaks my heart to think that some of these heroes lack basic necessities. As a community, we have a duty to ensure they are provided for. No New Yorker, especially a veteran, should go without warm clothing this winter.”

“I am so happy to have worked with the Mahopac Ladies Auxiliary, Senator Greg Ball the Kent Seniors and so many more to gather this much needed clothing for our local veterans that are in need,” said Tracy Griffin, of the VFW Post 5491 Ladies Auxiliary and member of Senator Greg Ball’s Veterans Advisory Council. “It is our hope that thanks to this clothing drive, the veterans at Castle Point and Montrose VA will have a nice Christmas.”

“During this Season of Giving we are mindful that there are many, many people who lack the basic necessities of life – food, shelter, and clothing. In 2012,  our Veteran’s Hospitals served more than 240,000 Veterans who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless- 21 percent more than the year before,” said Father Thomas Lutz, Chairman of Senator Greg Ball’s Faith Based Advisory Council. “Senator Greg Ball, Chairman of Veteran’s Affairs for the New York State Senate, has called on his Faith Based Advisory and Veteran’s Advisory Councils to sponsor a Winter Clothing Drive for Veteran’s. All collected winter clothing will be donated to the Veteran Administration Outreach to Hudson Valley Veteran’s who are in need of warm clothing for the winter months. You can help by donating New T-Shirts, Diabetic socks; underwear; warm winter jackets, sweaters, gloves and hats.”

“It is getting very cold and some of these veterans are in dire need of warm clothing,” said Eugene Parrotta, Chairman of Senator Greg Ball’s Veterans Advisory Council. “We appreciate Senator Ball and his team for everything they do for our veterans. Using the Senator’s large network, we should be able to collect a large amount of clothing for our veterans this winter.”
