SENATOR GREG BALL & OPERATION PROM OFFER $1 PROM DRESSES
Mahopac, N.Y. – 04/08/2014 – With prom season right around the corner, Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) teamed up with Operation PROM to help students attend prom by offering designer prom dresses for only $1. The prom dress sale took place on Sunday, April 6th from noon to 4 PM at Villa Barone Hilltop Manor in Mahopac, NY.
“Prom season is a wonderful time of year for high school students. However, prom season often produces a large financial burden on students and hardworking families. That’s why I teamed up with Operation PROM, an innovative not-for-profit that helps students attend their proms by offering designer prom dresses for only $1,” said Senator Greg Ball.
Prom dresses were available from designers such as Ralph Lauren, Jovani, The Dressy Group, BCBG, Dressbarn, Night Moves by Allure and others..
According to their mission statement, Operation PROM provides resources, opportunity and mentoring to students in need. Services are available to children in financial need, those who are homeless, sick, or disabled. School supplies and scholarships are available in addition to Operation PROM’s regular donations of prom dresses and tuxedos.
“Teaming up with Senator Ball to bring Operation PROM to students in the Putnam area has allowed us to expand our service area and provide Prom dresses at a low-cost for students and families who may be faced with financial hardships in this tough economy,” said Noel D’Allacco, founder of Operation PROM. “Operation PROM is thrilled to be working with Senator Ball this Prom season. It has allowed us to expand our outreach to provide low-cost Prom dresses to students in Putnam and the surrounding communities.”
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office took the opportunity to provide safety messages to our young people and remind them about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, drinking and driving, drug impaired driving and distracted driving.
“Attending the prom is truly one of the highlights of a high school student’s career. However, peer pressure and sometimes the costs involved to go to the prom can turn this positive experience for young people into a stressful event with the opposite effect. By providing leadership to insure that attending the prom will be affordable for all students, Senator Ball has taken a positive step in making prom season in Putnam County a truly successful and positive experience for our young people,” said Sheriff Donald B. Smith. “I join Senator Ball, our educators in Putnam County and our parents in working together to make prom season 2014 a truly memorable and safe experience for our most precious resource, the youth of Putnam County.”
Senator Ball and Operation PROM also teamed up with several local beauty and pageant queens to make the event a success. Mrs. New York America Melissa Luiso, Mrs. Westchester County Jennifer Czarniecki, Miss Italia Peekskill Nadia Manginelli and Miss Cinco de Mayo Peekskill Arianna Memoli will all participate in the event.
“Operation PROM is an organization that gives back to the high school communities in a time when it is economically needed. We are very honored to have been given this privilege by Senator Ball and Noel. We had a wonderful time helping out at the sale,” said Teresa Chang, Executive Director of Peekskill Pageants.
