Senator Greg Ball Visits Brewster Hs on Thursday Morning
Brewster, N.Y. – 11/04/2013 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) will be at Brewster High School on Thursday morning to accept placemats that Mrs. Cohen-Barnes’ art class has designed for the 3rd Annual Veterans’ Thanksgiving Dinner and also to join the Brewster High School Cross Country Team on their new track.
9:20 AM – Senator Greg Ball will join Mrs. Cohen-Barnes’ art class to accept the placemats they have designed for Senator Ball’s 3rd Annual Veterans’ Thanksgiving Dinner. Over the past two years, Senator Greg Ball has worked with the community to host an annual Thanksgiving dinner for local veterans. Last year hundreds of veterans’ attended the free dinner hosted at Putnam National Golf Club.
“This wonderful event couldn’t be possible without the help of local school groups like Ms. Cohen’s class. I urge anyone that wants to give back to those that gave so much to us, to join us to help plan this dinner,” said Senator Greg Ball. “To see the smile on the vets’ faces as they walk into the room, makes the dinner worth it every year.”
“Brewster Central School District is very proud to be a part of the Veterans’ Thanksgiving Dinner. I would like to commend Senator Greg Ball for hosting this annual dinner to show thanks to our local veterans for their service,” said Joseph Castagnola, Principal of Brewster High School. “On November 14th, at 7:00 p.m., in our Performing Arts Center, our High School will also honor our local veterans as we perform our annual Salute to Veterans Choral Concert.”
9:40 AM – Senator Greg Ball will join the Brewster High School Cross Country Team on their new high school track. The track was made possible partly by a $100,000 state grant secured by Senator Ball.
“Our region pays some of the highest taxes in the state, and while I am a limited government guy, I believe it is critical that we fight for our fair share of the budget,” said Senator Ball. “I also know that the lessons learned on the athletic field are just as important as those learned in the classroom, and supporting athletic programs in this tough economy remains essential. It has been my pleasure to work with the Brwester Central School District to make this much needed project possible.”
“We want to thank Senator Ball for ensuring that first our wonderful champion track and field teams can compete at home. Next for giving the school and community a safe and beautiful facility to enjoy and further fitness and well being,” said Superintendent Dr. Jane Sandbank. “The Senator’s support for education, the Brewster community and his understanding of the need for partnerships between school districts and our government officials is forward thinking.”
Additional funds for the track came from the Brewster Sports Foundation and also by the Brewster Board of Education earlier this year.
“It is with enthusiastic gratitude that we thank Senator Greg Ball for securing a $100,000.00 grant which, along with other resources from the Brewster Sports Foundation and the Brewster Central Board of Education has enabled us to re-surface and build a competitive track allowing us, for the first time, to host home meets,” said Dr. Joseph Castagnola, Principal of Brewster High School.
