Senator Martins Celebrates 75th Anniversary of Mineola Portuguese Soccer Club

 

Senator Jack M. Martins attended the Portuguese Soccer Club’s 75th anniversary gala on Saturday evening, March 12 at the Mineola Portuguese Center. The Mineola Portuguese Soccer Club has a long tradition of soccer excellence in the Portuguese community.


The club, which plays in the Long Island Football League’s East Division, has produced numerous players throughout the years who have enjoyed playing soccer while carving out successful careers such asNew England Revolution player Gary Flood, New York Red Bulls star Carlos Mendes and the club’s current president, Marco Dafonte.


The Mineola Portuguese Soccer Club began in 1936 and has brought community members together ever since. Senator Martins is among those who played in the club. “The Mineola Portuguese Soccer Club represents years of hard work and dedication by numerous people who wanted to share their love for soccer. For many, it is a source of special memories. It is an honor to be part of the club’s history. I wish it many more years of success,” said Senator Martins.
