    Senator Montgomery Recognized as Woman of Distinction
    During May’s “International Victorious Woman Month”
    Senator Honored by NYU and People’s World


    NYS Senator Velmanette Montgomery (D-Brooklyn) recently received two awards, which distinguish her as a visionary leader who is committed to ensuring that all people have equal access to quality education and every opportunity for positive life experiences.


    Senator Montgomery was presented the Distinguished Alumna Award by the New York University (NYU) Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.


    The award from NYU reads, “As a New York state Senator, you have improved the standard of living for all New Yorkers. Through your remarkable Teen Health Agenda, you have brought services to our children and sex education programs to our schools. You have fought tirelessly for juvenile and criminal justice reform, and are a vital advocate for the citizens overlooked by the courts. You r passion for fairness is evident in your efforts to create laws which prohibit discrimination against same-sex couples. New York shall forever be grateful for all you have done to rid it of intolerance and ignorance. We are proud of your achievements and recognize you as NYU Steinhardt’s Distinguished Alumna.”


    The month of May is recognized as International Victorious Woman Month. It is intended to celebrate women who have shaped life’s challenges into distinct victories, overcoming difficulties and empowering other women to achieve their personal goals.


    In addition to accolades received by NYU faculty and alumni, Senator Montgomery was honored by the New York Friends of the People’s World for her “contributions to the struggle for a better, more just and peaceful world.”
