Senator Ranzenhofer Announces Civil Service Exam for Correction Officers
Amherst, N.Y. – New York State Senator Michael Ranzenhofer announced today that the Department of Civil Service will hold a civil service examination for Correction Officer Trainee on April 4, 2009.
“I strongly encourage residents of the 61st Senate District to apply for the Correction Officer Trainee exam,” said Ranzenhofer. “The Correction Officer Trainee program is an excellent career opportunity to be a part of the New York State criminal justice system.”
A correction officer trainee’s salary starts at $34,329 per year. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged by the Department of Correctional Services to apply. To qualify for the exam, all applicants must have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma, be at least 21 years of age, and a U.S. and New York State citizen. Candidates will be given a background, medical, physical, and psychological exam. Candidates must be in good physical and mental health.
Applications may be obtained by calling the Senator’s District Office at (716) 631-8695. Applications are also available through the Department of Correctional Services web site at www.docs.state.ny.us, at Department of Labor offices, and New York State Correctional Facilities. Applications must be postmarked by February 17, 2009 and include a $30 check or money order made payable to the NYS Department of Civil Service for the filing fee.
