SPORTSMEN’S ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Senator Ball Kicks Off Advisory Committee for Sportsmen and 2nd Amendment Advocates

July 26, 2011 – A long time advocate for sportsmen’s rights, Senator Greg Ball has organized a Sportsmen’s Advisory Council, designed to field input and answer questions from local sportsmen. The Council, which consists of members from Dutchess, Westchester, and Putnam Counties, as well as leading advocates from throughout New York State, met tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Senator Ball’s district office located at 1441 Route 22 in Brewster,  N.Y. The Council is being chaired by NRA Member and Kent Town Councilman John Greene.

“It should be easier for law-abiding citizens to obtain and possess firearms to protect their property and their family,” Greene said. “I would like to accomplish getting Albany to drop their anti-gun agenda and honor the oath they took when they were sworn in to ‘uphold the United States’ Constitutional rights of the American people,’ not interpret them to fit their own special interests. Albany should be working together to address the real problems with guns, and enforce the laws already written. Whether on this committee or another, I will not stop until this mission is accomplished,” Greene added.

New York State Rifle and Pistol Association (NYSRPA) President Tom King, who addressed Senator Ball’s advisory council, said he hoped other Senators would take the same action as Senator Ball to listen to his constituency.

“Senator Ball’s Sportsmen and Outdoor Advisory Group is an outstanding method of sharing the legislative initiatives and listening to your core constituency,” King said. “It was an honor and a pleasure to address the group.”

Senator Ball’s Sportsmen’s Advisory Council will advise the Senator on pro-sportsmen legislation, and will help the Senator be a more informed advocate for all sportsmen throughout New York State.

Dennis Tate, a resident of Yorktown, says he has much to offer the Senator as a member of the council with expertise in handgun laws and penal code. Tate is also an avid hunter and fisher.

“I hope we all can accomplish a great deal by addressing the laws at hand and ensure that the laws in place are enforced well preventing legislation to adopt more stringent gun laws,” Tate said.

As an Assemblyman, Senator Ball has twice in four years been named NYSRPA Legislator of the Year for his defense of 2nd Amendment rights.

Members of the media are welcomed and encouraged to attend all Sportsmen’s Advisory Council Meeting.
