December 02, 2013

According to state officials, more than 175,000 homeowners on Long Island have yet to re-register for their Basic STAR tax exemption, with the deadline of December 31st approaching.  To assist those who need additional help, state employees will be at the Perry Duryea State Office Building, located at 250 Veterans Highway in Hauppauge, from 9 am to 5 pm today through Friday to help homeowners re-register for Basic STAR.

Everyone who is enrolled in the Basic STAR program must re-register with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (NYSDTF) by the December 31st deadline in order to continue receiving the STAR exemption for 2014 and beyond.  Instructions should have been mailed to every homeowner in Suffolk County who is currently enrolled in the Basic STAR program, including information on how to complete the process and a STAR code which is in order to complete the re-registration process.

If you have not yet applied or you need your STAR code, please click here for more information so that you can continue getting the tax relief you deserve.

Please note that current recipients of Enhanced STAR are not affected and do not have to take any action in regard to this re-registration program.
