Statement From Senator David Carlucci

Re: Forming the Independent Democratic Conference

January 6, 2011 - “Yesterday, joined by my colleagues Senators, Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx-Westchester), Diane Savino (D-Staten Island/Brooklyn) and David J. Valesky (D-Oneida), I announced my departure from the Senate Democratic Conference to form a third legislative conference – the Independent Democratic Conference.

“During my campaign for office, I ran as an ‘Independent Democrat’ because like the late Senator Morahan I understand the importance of setting aside partisan politics to improve the lives of the residents of New York State.

“This conference is committed to creating sound policy, attracting and retaining businesses, creating a property tax cap, streamlining government to make it more efficient and holding legislators to the highest ethical standards.

“It is time to stop looking towards the next election and start looking towards the next generation.  I joined the Independent Democratic Conference to put politics aside and put the people of the 38th district first.”
