TEMPLE BETH SHALOM DONATES COATS FOR SENATOR BALL’S VETERANS WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE
Mahopac, N.Y. – 02/01/2014 – On Friday afternoon Temple Beth Shalom joined Senator Greg Ball’s (R, C, I – Patterson) Veterans Winter Clothing Drive by donated winter coats to veterans in the Hudson Valley.
In early December, when Senator Ball heard that veterans were in need of winter clothing, he mobilized his advisory councils to host a clothing drive. Senator Ball set up numerous locations throughout the Hudson Valley area to collect clothing for veterans at both the Montrose and Castle Point VA Hospitals.
“Our veterans have given so much for us, and it breaks my heart to think that some of these heroes lack basic necessities. As a community, we have a duty to ensure they are provided for. No New Yorker, especially a veteran, should go without warm clothing this winter,” said Senator Greg Ball. “This has been an enormously successful clothing drive. I would like to thank Rabbi Hammerman and everyone that has been involved to make this possible. The clothing we collected will go a long way to ensure that our local veterans are well dressed this winter.”
Right before Christmas Senator Greg Ball delivered dozens of bags of warm winter clothing to both Hudson Valley VA Hospitals. In addition to the winter jackets that Temple Beth Shalom donated, Senator Ball will also be delivering several other bags of clothing that were collected from the clothing drive.
“When Senator Greg Ball alerted us about the clothing drive to assist military veterans, we were happy to help! Our shared Bible reminds us that no one should go without a warm coat, particularly during this harsh winter weather,” said Rabbi Eytan Hammerman of Temple Beth Shalom. “We are hopeful that this donation will help ensure that the local men and women who have served our country have a warm winter coat for the remainder of the season.”
“During this winter season we are mindful that there are many, many people who lack the basic necessities of life – food, shelter, and clothing. In 2012, our Veteran’s Hospitals served more than 240,000 Veterans who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless- 21 percent more than the year before,” said Father Thomas Lutz, Chairman of Senator Greg Ball’s Faith Based Advisory Council.
“It has been very cold and some of these veterans are in dire need of warm clothing,” said Eugene Parrotta, Chairman of Senator Greg Ball’s Veterans Advisory Council. “We appreciate Senator Ball and his team for everything they do for our veterans. Using the Senator’s large network, we have be able to collect a large amount of clothing for our veterans.”
