TONIGHT: ARMY WEEK ASSOCIATION AND DOZEN OTHERS TO JOIN SENATOR BALL’S EFFORTS TO BUILD HOME FOR WOUNDED VETERAN

Brewster, N.Y. – 9/12/2013 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) is very happy to announce that the founders of Army Week Association will be joining his efforts along with Purple Heart Homes to build a home for a service connected disabled veteran within the next year.

Tonight, Thursday, September 12, 2013, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Senator Greg Ball will host an informational meeting at the Carmel Town Hall, located at 60 McAlpin Avenue, in Mahopac, NY. At the meeting, Purple Heart Homes will give a presentation regarding their expansion into New York State.

Purple Heart Homes is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in 2008 by service disabled veterans Dale Beatty and John Gallina. Mr. Beatty and Mr. Gallina were deployed to Iraq in 2004 and served together in the same unit. On November 15, 2004, an explosion from an anti tank mine hit their vehicle, and resulted in severe head and back injuries for Mr. Gallina and the loss of both legs for Mr. Beatty.

Senator Ball, Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, plans to  partner with Purple Heart Homes to initially build a home locally, and then join efforts statewide in a larger “500 Homes for 500 Heroes” effort.

“I am very excited that Army Week Association will be joining our efforts to build a home for a wounded veteran. I am asking local elected officials, financial institutions, and community partners to join the Purple Heart Homes Senate Task Force that will be dedicated to providing a local personalized housing solution for a service connected disabled veteran within the next year,” said Senator Greg Ball. “Dale is a great American and a hero. Dale has selflessly taken a personal tragedy and turned it into a wonderful initiative that he has taken nationwide. When I first spoke with Dale on the phone, I knew this was something we needed to bring to my district.”

Vice President of Development at Army Week Association (AWA) Christopher Molaro, 1LT, FA said he is very excited to see this project come to fruition.

“When I first met Greg Ball while I was a cadet at West Point, I admired him and his relentless effort to continue to serve this nation, albeit in a different capacity than his former job as an Air Force officer, and to fight for members serving in the US Armed Forces,” said Molaro. “Working with Chris Page and Jen Wilson of Army Week Association, I learned about their affiliation with another Veteran Support Organization, Purple Heart Homes, and immediately thought of Senator Greg Ball and the tremendous potential these different organizations, if connected, could accomplish in order to help and serve wounded warriors living in New York. The privilege I had to conduct the initial introductions was an honor and am ecstatic to see the vision coming to fruition.”

Dale Beatty, Co-Founder of Purple Heart Homes and a 2013 CNN Hero nominee, will give a presentation about Purple Heart Homes at the Carmel Town Hall on Thursday evening.

“Purple Heart Homes looks forward to working with Senator Ball and his team to do a project for a Service Connected Disabled Veteran in Senator Ball’s Senate District. We believe the successful reintegration process of our Veterans begins with community. We help facilitate that process,” said Dale Beatty. “We were trained to not leave a soldier behind on the battle field and we are committed to not leaving them behind now that we returned home. Together with community we strive to leave no one behind.”

The meeting is open to the public and the press. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to (845) 279-3773 or kgobins@nysenate.gov.
