Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. – (6/25/12) –Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) presented Kristian Laureiro and Aaron Baltich-Schecter of Croton-on-Hudson Boy Scout Troop 28 with a New York State Senate Proclamations for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout at Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton-on-Hudson.

Eagle Scout is the highest possible rank in the Boy Scouts of America. The Eagle Scout is an honor that is held for life and is said “once an Eagle, always an Eagle.”

“It is a pleasure to be here today with both Kristian and Aaron. There are only a small percent of scouts that ever make it to this ranking and I would like to congratulate both of them for all their hard work to achieve this great honor,” said Senator Greg Ball. “Kristian and Aaron are both great leaders that we can all be proud of. I look forward to great things from them in the future.”

Kristian’s service project consisted of creating a nature trail in Croton Point Park to allow access to the two freshwater ponds within the park’s borders. These ponds are of historical value and previously access was only to the southern edge of one of the ponds. The trail allows visitors to experience the ponds with an easier route from the main field area of the park. Kristian led his team in cutting trails, building steps, laying planks and trail leveling.

Kristian is a graduate of John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers and will be attending Guilford College in the fall.

Aaron’s service project consisted of creating a trail in Croton Point Park to allow better views of, and access to, the Hudson River. He led his team to re-route an exiting trail to a new more durable path, install water bars to limit erosion, reinforce the pathways in sandy areas, clean up the riverfront and build a bench out of driftwood materials at a scenic river overlook.

In addition to his participation in the Boy Scouts of America, Aaron is a student athlete and recognized scholar at Croton Harmon High School.
