Woman of Distinction From The Town of Cortlandt, Janet Mainiero
After working her way up from an executive secretary to a stockholder analyst, Ms. Mainiero left the Gillette Company after 20 years, to pursue Urban Planning. Ms. Mainiero received her Bachelors and Masters degree from the Urban Planning Department of Boston University and took a job at the Massachusetts Water and Resources Authority as a Field Assistant for the first major sewer interceptor project. Ms. Mainiero then moved to New York, where she oversaw the environmental impact statements for various railroad extensions for the Metro North Railroad. After retiring from Metro North, Ms. Mainiero spearheaded the effort to obtain salvaged steal from the fallen World Trade Center to create a memorial in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11th. Ms. Mainiero organized volunteers and established a 501(c)(3) Foundation to raise funds for the memorial. The first phase was built on the shores of the Hudson River in Croton Landing and dedicated on September 11, 2012.
