Yorktown, Sergeant William Lewis

 

    Sergeant William Lewis enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954, and spent two years on the Battleship Wisconsin, and served in the 3rd Marine Division on Okinawa Island. Sergeant Lewis served four years active duty, and four years in the reserve. Sergeant Lewis is extremely active in his community, where he volunteered for 15 years at the U.S. Marine Corps recruitment center in Peekskill New York, founded the Yorktown’s Veteran Parade and has served as the area coordinator for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program in Westchester and Putnam counties. Sergeant Lewis has four children with his wife Josephine, and next year they will be celebrating their 50th anniversary.
