Statement from Senate Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson on Supreme Court Decision To Uphold Affordable Care Act

“Today’s decision is great news for working class New Yorkers. I applaud the Supreme Court for their decision. Our conference was proud to stand with Governor Cuomo in supporting theestablishment of a health exchange here in New York in accordance with the federal law.Unfortunately, the Senate Republicans held the health and well-being of New Yorkers hostage byrefusing to pass this exchange legislatively and instead forced the Governor to use his executive prerogative. Thankfully the Senate Republicans’ radical Tea Party agenda has been thwarted. Iwould hope now we can move forward in ensuring New Yorkers are no longer denied access tothe quality and affordable health care they deserve.”
