Encourages enrollment in NYS Donate Life registry
New York State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer will sponsor a Unyts blood drive at the Batavia Downs Casino Paddock Room on Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents can schedule an appointment to donate blood by contacting Unyts at 1-800-227-4771.
“As the only community blood bank in Western New York, Unyts ensures your blood donation helps families, friends and neighbors right here in our community. Your donation can save up to three Western New York lives. I encourage residents to help save lives by participating in my Unyts blood drive at Batavia Downs,” said Ranzenhofer.
“We are pleased that Senator Ranzenhofer is making this important commitment to blood donation during our time of need this summer season,” said Mark J. Simon, President and CEO of Unyts. “Every day we strive to make sure there is an adequate blood supply for our local hospitals, and we are grateful to have such a wonderful community partner to help us ensure that patients have blood when they need it.”
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors should bring valid photo identification, wear comfortable clothing and drink more fluids than normal on the day of the drive.
Senator Ranzenhofer is also encouraging residents to register for the Donate Life registry. Enrollment forms for the New York State Donate Life Organ and Tissue Registry are available at Senator Ranzenhofer’s District Office. To enroll in the New York State Donate Life Registry, please click here.
Headquartered in downtown Buffalo and established in 1981, Unyts operates as a not-for-profit organization, serving the eight counties of Western New York and is part of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. It strives to assist donor families, coordinate the donation process and increase knowledge and awareness within the community regarding organ, eye, tissue and blood donation.
