I have long held that a strong, quality education is the key to our future success. An educated and skilled workforce will undoubtedly enhance our state's ability to attract new businesses and stimulate job growth.
We can provide a quality education and keep taxes down if we work to give schools the flexibility they need with mandate relief and provide them with the resources to keep up with the ever changing needs of today's educational demands.
This year we approved a $10,729,586 increase for Dutchess County schools in my Senate District. In addition, I was able to secure grants totaling $404,000 for local districts to address schools individual needs.
It's also estimated that our new 2% property tax cap has already helped save Dutchess County real property taxpayers over $16.7 million in potential higher costs. I will continue to support laws and programs that provide our students the resources they need to succeed, while balancing the concerns of taxpayers.
