Brewster, N.Y. – (3/2/13) – Over two dozen veterans from throughout the Hudson Valley were honored at Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I - Patterson) 2nd Annual Veterans’ Hall of Fame Ceremony. Among them, was Harvey Strode from the Town of Patterson.
The Veterans’ Hall of Fame was created by Senator Ball, and designed to honor outstanding veterans throughout the 40th Senate District. Each veteran that was honored will also be individually featured on a traveling wall that will tour local municipalities throughout the 40th district.
“I am excited to induct this 2nd class of heroes into our Veterans’ Hall of Fame! These men and women have been hand-picked by their communities because they chose a path of courage, honor, integrity and bravery; a path that helped shape America as we know it, protecting our way of life and liberty,” said Senator Greg Ball. “America is not a great country because of its politicians, it’s a great country because of our veterans.”
Harvey Strode is the Town of Patterson’s honoree for the 40th District Veterans’ Hall of Fame.
Harvey Strode was born in Derby, Connecticut in August 1944. He served in the United States Marine Corps for four years and six months, reaching the rank of Sergeant E5 Intelligence.
During his service, Harvey Strode earned the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with one star, the National Defense Service Medal, the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, the Marksman Medal with Pistol Bar, the Sharpshooter Medal with Rifle Bar, the Good Conduct Medal, and holds Top Secret Crypto Clearance.
Harvey Strode has served as National Deputy Chief of Staff for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Commander of AmVets Post 11-11 in Putnam Lake, Commander of VFW Post 9257 in Putnam Lake, and currently serves as Putnam County Commander. Mr. Strode has also served as Exhaulted Ruler of East Rock Lodge #141 in New Haven, Connecticut, and is a 32nd Degree Mason of Widows Son Lodge #1 in New Haven, Connecticut.
Harvey Strode retired as Manager of Bob Thomas Ford in Hamden, Connecticut, and was also past owner of Pawling Ford.
