New York State Senator Eric Adams (D, Brooklyn) and community leaders will hold an emergency meeting with residents at Brooklyn’s Van Dyke Houses to discuss urgent measures in response to the second rape at the housing complex in two weeks. Senator Adams and community leaders have already requested a reorganization of the personnel assigned to monitor security cameras in public housing in response to the failure of NYPD monitoring personnel to detect a rape at Van Dyke Houses two weeks ago.
Senator Adams states: “Tenants at the Van Dyke Houses complex are understandably distressed by the second rape there in two weeks. We cannot tolerate an environment in which residents of public housing are in jeopardy. We have already requested the NYPD to make significant changes in the personnel monitoring the more than 200 security cameras installed at Van Dyke Houses. Tonight’s emergency meeting with residents will be an opportunity to discuss exigent measures to increase tenant safety.”
