“As everyone in this community knows, this can be a very dangerous intersection, especially for our young schoolchildren on their way to and from P.S. 71,” said Senator Klein. “I am pleased to have been able to work with the NYPD to negotiate the return of a permanent crossing guard to this critical area.”
Grace Cerini, President of the P.S. 71 PTA, thanked Senator Klein for his efforts, saying, “Parents shouldn't have to be afraid that their children can't cross the street safely on the way to school, so we are very appreciative of Senator Klein intervening on our behalf to make sure our children can get to school safely.”
This intersection has been without a crossing guard since December 2005, when the previous crossing guard was struck by a car while on duty.
