Senate Majority Leader Malcolm A. Smith, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman John Sampson and Ranking Member George Maziarz announced today the confirmation of Jonathan Lippman, Governor Paterson’s nominee for Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals. Judge Lippman is now the highest judicial officer in the State of New York, succeeding former Chief Judge Judith Kaye.
"Judge Lippman has demonstrated a commanding knowledge of the law and has shown himself to be among our state’s finest jurists," said Senator Smith. "His record of reforming our state’s judicial system and the respect he has earned within his profession, make him a remarkable choice to succeed Judge Kaye and continue the growth that began under her leadership. I applaud the Governor for giving New Yorkers a nominee who will be a great Chief Judge. "
