Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) and Assemblyman Robert J. Castelli (R, C – Goldens Bridge) today helped pass joint resolution K266, honoring the achievements of Jason Distant, the Northern Westchester Boys & Girls Club’s 2011 Youth of the Year. The award is the highest honor a club member can receive and recognizes the outstanding contributions a young person has made to his family, school, and community as well as the Boys & Girls Club.
“Jason is an extraordinary young man who cares deeply about his community,” Castelli said. “He has shown tremendous leadership skills while volunteering to strengthen the Westchester community. “His self-sacrifice has made him a role model not just to younger children but for all of us who strive to do better and work harder in order to help others.”
On March 22nd in Albany, Jason Distant, the 2011 Youth of the Year recipient from the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester, recieves a copy of Joint Resolution K266, honoring his tremendous achievement.
“What a great young man and awesome peer leader! I am proud to recognize Jason for all of his achievements and his active participation in the community,” Ball said. “He represents a positive role model for his fellow students and peers at the Boys and Girls club of Northern Westchester. I applaud him for all that he has been able to achieve both in his studies and on his own, and I let him know that this is just the beginning, because we expect great things!”
Before becoming the 2011 Youth of the Year, Jason Distant had been involved with the Boys & Girls Club for 10 years. During this time Jason volunteered for more than 180 community-service hours in the summer and after school. His dedication earned him a spot on the Boys & Girls Club Junior Staff program.
Jason is currently a student at Fox Lane High School, where he volunteers as a student sportscaster and helps aspiring young musicians. Jason is known as a leader in the classroom, on the soccer field, and in the orchestra. He is planning to attend college this fall and is interested in pursuing a career in sports journalism. For his hard work, he was awarded a college scholarship from the Northern Westchester Boys & Girls Club to help him pursue his dreams.
The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester is a voluntary nonprofit corporation. Its purpose is to provide supervised recreation, physical instruction, educational programs, cultural programs, and social programs for all youths in Northern Westchester County. The club’s mission is to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
