From The Chronicle-Express: "A year ago on the evening of May 13, rain poured over portions of Yates County with a force most had never seen before. Before the sun rose May 14, fire fighters had rescued people from flooded homes and cars, and pumped scores of basements, and emergency dispatchers had fielded many of the 1,500 calls for help they would receive over the next three days."

Albany, N.Y., May 13—The New York State Senate Task Force on Workforce Development held its second public forum today in Albany.

Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) serves as a member on the task force, which Senate leaders created earlier this year.

He said that the group’s ongoing work is vital to the overall effort to revitalize the economy of Upstate New York.

Cornell University scientists conduct forum in Albany on the impact of extreme weather on New York's farm families and farming communities

Albany, N.Y., May 12--State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C-Big Flats), chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, today helped welcome representatives from Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to the capital.

The distinguished guests were in Albany to conduct a Public Education Forum on the "challenges and opportunities for the farm community in the face of extreme weather."

Albany, N.Y., May 6—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats), Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) and other state legislators are hosting two New York Wine Industry Association (NYWIA) “Sip and Sample” events in Albany this month featuring wineries, cheese producers and other food manufacturers from the Finger Lakes, and Central and Western New York.

The lawmakers said the May events are aimed at complementing ongoing efforts to promote, showcase and support products grown and made in New York State.

Albany, N.Y., May 6—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) last night paid tribute to Linda Thomas, longtime owner and operator of the Wellsburg Diner in the village of Wellsburg, New York (Chemung County), as his 2015 “Woman of Distinction” at an awards ceremony in Albany.

Thomas represented O’Mara’s 58th District at the Senate’s 18th Annual “Women of Distinction” tribute in the Legislative Office Building.  She was recognized along with more than 60 other honorees representing senatorial districts from across New York.
