Local small business owner being honored by Senator O'Mara at the Capitol today as a 2015 'Woman of Distinction' ~ Linda Thomas, longtime owner of the Wellsburg Diner, will be honored by Senate in statewide tribute during National Small Business Week

Albany, N.Y., May 5—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and his colleagues later today will honor Linda Thomas, longtime owner and operator of the Wellsburg Diner in the village of Wellsburg, New York (Chemung County), as a 2015 “Woman of Distinction.” 

O'Mara selected Thomas to represent his 58th Senate District at the Senate’s 18th Annual “Women of Distinction” awards ceremony in Albany this evening.  At the annual statewide tribute in the Legislative Office Building, Thomas will be recognized along with more than 60 other honorees representing senatorial districts from across New York State.

Legislature approves 'equal pay for equal work' legislation

Late yesterday at the Capitol, the New York State Assembly unanimously approved "equal pay for equal work" legislation that was the first order of business taken up and approved by the state Senate in January at the start of the 2015 legislative session. 

The measure will now be delivered to Governor Andrew Cuomo to be signed into law.

Finger Lakes Land Trust announces funding for regional tourism and conservation projects ~ O'Mara highlights importance of Environmental Protection Fund

Ithaca, N.Y., April 23–The Finger Lakes Land Trust announced today that it has been awarded a total of $51,000 for regional conservation and tourism projects through the New York State Conservation Partnership Program.

"One of the true highlights of the recently enacted state budget is that we strengthened the Environmental Protection Fund, and this is exactly why," said State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C-Big Flats), chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee.

Albany, N.Y., April 22—The New York State Senate today approved a Legislative Resolution sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats), chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, commemorating the 45th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2015.

O’Mara was named the committee’s new chairman in late January at the start of this year’s legislative session.

'RecruitNY' campaign scheduled for the weekend of April 25-26 ~ Many local volunteer fire departments will be hosting events ~ Find out more (UPDATED)

Elmira, N.Y., April 15—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) reminded area residents today that a number of the region’s volunteer fire departments will hold an Open House during the weekend of April 25-26, 2015 as part of “RecruitNY,” a statewide public awareness initiative sponsored by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) and others to encourage the recruitment of local volunteer firefighters and EMTs.

The annual event is coordinated by FASNY in partnership with the state Association of Fire Districts, Association of Fire Chiefs, Volunteer Fire Police Association and the County Fire Coordinators’ Association.
