O'Mara welcomes new round of state aid for regional economic development -- Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions recognized as 'Top Performers' (UPDATED)

Albany, N.Y., December 11—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) welcomed today’s announcement that the Southern Tier region will be awarded a total of $80.8 million and the Finger Lakes region $80.7 million under the fourth round of funding through the state’s Regional Economic Development Councils (REDC) initiative.

O’Mara noted that both the Southern Tier and the Finger Lakes regions are among the five regions that are recognized as a “Top Performer” in this year’s competition.  The other Top Performers this year are Central New York, Mid-Hudson and Long Island.

O'Mara: Register online for Dec. 3 emergency preparedness training in Corning

Corning, N.Y., November 24— State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) reminded area residents today that the online registration process is underway for a state-sponsored “Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program” at Corning-Painted Post High School on Wednesday, December 3,  2014.

The event is being sponsored by O'Mara, Assemblyman Phil Palmesano and Corning Mayor Richard Negri.

O'Mara issues reminder on correction officer recruitment ~ Deadline for submitting application is November 25 ~ Find out more

Elmira, N.Y., November 21—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) reminded area residents today that the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) is currently undertaking a statewide correction officer recruitment effort.

A state Civil Service examination to fill new positions has been scheduled for January 10, 2015.  

Anyone interested in taking the exam must file an application by next Tuesday, November 25, 2014.

Albany, N.Y., November 20--Legislation to further strengthen New York State's burgeoning craft beverage industry by eliminating burdensome regulations on producers, easing marketing restrictions and other actions has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The new law was co-sponsored by Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning).

State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) was re-elected to a third consecutive, two-year term representing New York State's 58th Senate District.

The 58th District encompasses all of Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties, and a part of Tompkins County (the city and town of Ithaca, and the towns of Enfield, Newfield and Ulysses).

Regional bicycle, pedestrian trail projects awarded funding

Elmira, N.Y., October 30—Several bicycle, pedestrian and multi-use path transportation projects across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions will receive a total of more than $3 million in federal transportation aid, according to State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats).

The awards were announced earlier this week in Albany as part of a package of more than $70 million in statewide project awards. 

O'Mara said that projects in Chemung, Steuben, Tompkins and Yates counties in his 58th Senate District will receive funding.
