Statement from Sen. Espaillat on His Vote In Support of Marriage Equality

Shortly after 10:30 pm tonight, the New York State Senate passed marriage equality by a 33 – 29 vote. After voting “Yes” on the legislation, Senator Adriano Espaillat (D – Manhattan/Bronx) released the following statement:

Gov. Cuomo Signs Sen. Espaillat's Bill to Crackdown on Dangerous "Nutcracker" Alcoholic Drink

Today, State Senator Adriano Espaillat (D – Manhattan/Bronx) and Assemblyman Nelson Castro (D – Bronx) applauded Governor Cuomo for signing an important law that will protect minors from a dangerous alcohol beverage sold in parts of New York City. The law, sponsored by Senator Espaillat and Assemblyman Castro in the legislature, will crack down on the selling of sugary, colorful, and strong alcoholic drinks, often known as the “nutcracker.”

As Winter Moves in, Senator Espaillat Reminds Residents of Heating Assistance for Low Income Families

Espaillat's office to help contistuents with applications and follow up 

As temperatures drop, Senator Adriano Espaillat (D – Manhattan/Bronx) is reminding residents about the availability of heating assistance for low income families. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps millions of low income households, particularly those with the lowest incomes that pay a high proportion of household income for energy, in paying their energy bill.

Sen. Espaillat Calls for Action, Following Tragic Connecticut Shooting

New York State Senator Adriano Espaillat released the following statement regarding the Newtown, Connecticut shooting on Friday which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, including 20 children.

“As we learn more and more about the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, it is clear that we need strong, decisive action against gun violence. Along with prayers for victims of this horrific tragedy, we must take specific steps to combat the rampant flow of guns in our society.

“In New York State, we must pass common-sense gun safety measures like mandatory renewal requirements of firearm licenses; micro-stamping ammunition so criminals can be easier to track and deter; and enhanced scrutiny for mentally unstable individuals seeking guns.
