VFW Empire Post #375's Annual Veterans Day Ceremony

Senator Stewart-Cousins thanked the veterans of the VFW Empire Post #375's for their service to our country at their Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11th in Yonkers, NY. Senator Stewart-Cousins, whose father was a member of the "Buffalo Soldiers" 92nd Infantry Division and fought in Italy during WWII, mentioned in her speech, "Due to my father's and millions of other veterans' unrelenting persistence and selflessness to defend this country, we are able to enjoy days like Veterans' Day."

Seely Place Elementary School "Take A Vet To School Day"

On Wednesday, November 6th, Seely Place Elementary School in Edgemont participated in The History Channel's "Take A Vet To School Day", a national program that encourages communities and schools to invite veterans of all backgrounds to share their stories and receive thanks for their service on or around Veterans Day. At this event, Senator Stewart-Cousins spoke to a group of over 400 elementary school children about her father and brother's WWII and Vietnam War experiences and the importance of honoring veterans because of the vital roles they play in defending our nation.

Montefiore Acquisition of Sound Shore Medical Center Press Conference

On November 6th, Senator Stewart-Cousins spoke at the press conference announcing the acquisition of Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle by Montefiore. SSMC was at risk of closing, but Montefiore's acquisition will save hundreds of jobs and maintain access to health care for the New Rochelle community. Senator Stewart-Cousins broke ground at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, kicking off the expansion project of the company's corporate headquarters and laboratories in Westchester County. New York State contributed $8.5 million in tax credits through the Excelsior Jobs Program to make this expansion possible.

Groundbreaking for Ben’s Kosher Deli and Restaurant in Scarsdale

Senator Stewart-Cousins broke ground at Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen and Restaurant in Scarsdale. The two story facility located on Central Avenue will offer kosher catering deli and restaurant service. It will also have a full bar and feature an extensive list of freshly made daily specials that will appeal to a broader customer base, in addition to the traditional Kosher deli fare that made Ben's famous. This will be Ben's seventh location, joining its three locations in Long Island, one in Queens, one in Manhattan and one in Boca Raton, FL.

Small Farm Tour in Ulster County Promotes Upstate Agricultural Economy

Recognizing the importance of the agricultural sector to the New York economy, Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins joined Senators Cecilia Tkaczyk and Toby-Ann Stavisky for a tour of three small farms in Ulster County. Irvington Fire Dept. 133rd Annual Inspection

Senator Stewart-Cousins took part in the annual tradition of inspecting firetruck engines and equipment to make sure that they are in good working condition at Irvington Fire Department's 133rd Annual Inspection on Saturday, October 5th. At this special event, the Senator had the pleasure of meeting some of New York's Bravest, many of whom have been serving the Village of Irvington for more than twenty years.

Senator Recognized for Leadership in Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises

For her leadership in promoting minority and women owned businesses, Senator Stewart-Cousins was recognized with two separate awards this October. On October 3rd at the 3rd Annual New York State MWBE Forum in Albany, Leader Stewart-Cousins was honored by Governor Andrew Cuomo with a certificate presented to her by Mylan Denerstein, Counsel to the Governor. Two weeks later, the African American Chamber of Commerce of Westchester and Rockland honored the Senator with their Political Leader of the Year award for her leadership and support of MWBEs. In a statement, Senator Stewart-Cousins said, “Since the 2007 disparity study, New York State has made long-overdue progress in promoting MWBEs and increasing their participation in State projects.
