Neighborhood Preservation Coalition of NYS Advocacy Day on Affordable Housing

Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins spoke at the Neighborhood Preservation Coalition "Affordable Housing" Rally on Monday, March 10th in Albany. Growing up in public housing, Leader Stewart-Cousins knows first-hand the struggles of finding a modestly-priced place to call home, and continues to fight to reduce homelessness in New York. At the rally, she discussed the importance of affordable housing for famillies, how organizations and individuals need to continue to bring issues of affordable housing to light, and how "we need to start thinking creatively about how we house our New York families".

White Plains St. Patrick's Day Parade

Participating in White Plain's St. Patrick's Day Annual Parade has become part of Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins' tradition in celebrating the Irish culture and heritage of many of her constituents. This is the 17th year White Plains hosted this celebration which occured on Saturday, March 8th and commenced at the intersection of Mamaroneck Avenue and Old Mamaroneck Road ending at City Hall. Also at the Parade was the Senator's colleague, Senator George Latimer.

Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center Opening

Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins was one of the first few to step foot in the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center on Saturday, March 8th which was its grand opening. The purpose of the Education Center is "to enhance the teaching and learning of the lessons of the Holocaust and the right of all people to be treated with dignity and respect. Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins encourages the youth to speak on issues they are concerned about and took some time off her busy schedule to meet with some of her young constituents who were visiting Albany following a weekend-long educational program run by the North American Federation of Temple Youth and Reform Jewish Voice of NY. White Plains Historical Society Celebration of George Washington's Birthday

On February 23rd, Senator Stewart-Cousins and other local elected officials joined the White Plains Historical Society at the Jacob Purdy House to celebrate the birthday of America's Founder, George Washington. The event program included a flag raising ceremony and a lecture by historian Barnet Schecter titled "Revolutionary War Battles in NY Through George Washington's Maps". The coverlet containing pictures of historic White Plains houses and buildings, which the Senator happily purchased to support the organization, can be purchased at the WPHS online gift shop.
