Senator Stewart-Cousins broke ground at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, kicking off the expansion project of the company's corporate headquarters and laboratories in Westchester County. New York State contributed $8.5 million in tax credits through the Excelsior Jobs Program to make this expansion possible.

Groundbreaking for Ben’s Kosher Deli and Restaurant in Scarsdale

Senator Stewart-Cousins broke ground at Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen and Restaurant in Scarsdale. The two story facility located on Central Avenue will offer kosher catering deli and restaurant service. It will also have a full bar and feature an extensive list of freshly made daily specials that will appeal to a broader customer base, in addition to the traditional Kosher deli fare that made Ben's famous. This will be Ben's seventh location, joining its three locations in Long Island, one in Queens, one in Manhattan and one in Boca Raton, FL.

Small Farm Tour in Ulster County Promotes Upstate Agricultural Economy

Recognizing the importance of the agricultural sector to the New York economy, Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins joined Senators Cecilia Tkaczyk and Toby-Ann Stavisky for a tour of three small farms in Ulster County. Organized by Senator Tkaczyk, the tour demonstrated how vital agriculture is for the local and statewide economy and helped educate the legislators about the challenges facing small family farms.

Irvington Fire Dept. 133rd Annual Inspection

Senator Stewart-Cousins took part in the annual tradition of inspecting firetruck engines and equipment to make sure that they are in good working condition at Irvington Fire Department's 133rd Annual Inspection on Saturday, October 5th. At this special event, the Senator had the pleasure of meeting some of New York's Bravest, many of whom have been serving the Village of Irvington for more than twenty years.

Senator Recognized for Leadership in Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises

For her leadership in promoting minority and women owned businesses, Senator Stewart-Cousins was recognized with two separate awards this October. On October 3rd at the 3rd Annual New York State MWBE Forum in Albany, Leader Stewart-Cousins was honored by Governor Andrew Cuomo with a certificate presented to her by Mylan Denerstein, Counsel to the Governor. Two weeks later, the African American Chamber of Commerce of Westchester and Rockland honored the Senator with their Political Leader of the Year award for her leadership and support of MWBEs. In a statement, Senator Stewart-Cousins said, “Since the 2007 disparity study, New York State has made long-overdue progress in promoting MWBEs and increasing their participation in State projects.

Senator Stewart-Cousins Honoring Patricia Tinston with LeadingAge NY 2013 Long Term Care Employees of Distinction Award

Senator Stewart-Cousins makes sure to recognize the individuals who strive to improve the quality of life for the elderly and disabled. That is exactly what she did at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry when she presented a Legislative Resolution to Patricia Tinston, a clinical health nurse at the facility. The Resolution, which passed the State Senate this year, recognized Ms. Tinston for receiving the LeadingAge NY Long-Term Care Employee of Distinction Award.

Leader Stewart-Cousins, along with Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Civil Rights Heroes Edie Windsor and Roberta A. Kaplan, was honored with the Trailblazer of Democracy Award for her leadership and committment to fighting for women's rights, and equal rights for all, at the Eleanor's Legacy Fall Luncheon on Wednesday, October 2nd at the Grand Hyatt in New York City. Senators in attendance to support the Leader were Senators Michael Gianaris, Jose M. Serrano, Velmanette Montgomery, Ruth Hassell-Thompson, Terry Gipson and Cecilia Tkaczyk. White Plains Columbus Day Festival 2013

The City of White Plains kicked off their Italian Heritage and Culture Month with a 4th Annual Columbus Day Festival on September 28th and 29th which Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins was delighted to partake in. Senator Stewart-Cousins stopped by various vendor tables with Carolyn Stevens, Executive Director of Scarsdale Chamber of Commerce--this one is the League of Women Voters--at Scardale's FIRST food and wine festival on Sunday, September 22nd. North Yonkers Boys and Girls Club Football and Cheering Opening Day

Senator Stewart-Cousins had the pleasure to kick-off the North Yonkers Boys and Girls Club football and cheering season on Sunday, September 22nd. The North Yonkers Boys and Girls Club is a volunteer organization and works for the prevention of delinquency and youth crime and the advancement of the morale., physical, mental, and social well being of the youth of the City of Yonkers. The club offers basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, Pop Warner football, and cheerleading, for 1,200 youth annually. Sports are offered to children ages 5 through 17. The club also has a teen club for the teens 13 through 19 living in northwest Yonkers.
