The Westchester County Heritage Celebration continued on Sunday, August 3rd, this time celebrating the Indian heritage where Senator Stewart-Cousins spoke about her appreciation for the culture and presented a proclamation.
Senator Stewart-Cousins at the Hastings Flea Market on Sunday afternoon, August 10th, showing support to local artisans and vendors of the lower Hudson Valley. Senator Stewart-Cousins proudly celebrating her African American Heritage at the Flag Raising Ceremony on Friday, August 15th. In honor of this event, she presented a resolution to the Yonkers African American Heritage Committee, the organization responsible for organizing this annual celebration.
Senator Stewart-Cousins stopped by the annual New Rochelle Street Fair & Music Festival on Sunday, September 7th, which featured over 100 vendors, a classic car show, music at the Memorial Plaza, rides, games, crafts, facepainting and more! Also at the Fair were Councilman Jared Rice, New Rochelle Public Library Director Thomas Geoffino, Councilman Ivar Hyden, and Mayor Noam Bramson, pictured here with the Senator. While at the Fair, the Senator was interviewed by WFAS Radio's Bob Marrone, and caught up with Sam the Newspaper Man.
A big fan of jazz music, Senator Stewart-Cousins stopped by the annual Jazzfest on Sunday, September 7th in White Plains, to greet constituents and see some of her favorite local musicians play. Hosted by ArtsWestchester, Jazzfest is "a six-day celebration of jazz in downtown White Plains, culminating in an outdoor jazz concert with delicious food from area restaurants". (Yonkers - September 28th) Senator Stewart-Cousins continued the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month by walking the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Parade, and meetnig and greeting her Yonkers constituents from Lincoln Park on South Broadway to Getty Square. This year's theme "Unidos Por Un Futuro Mejor"--"United for a Better Future"--showcases the various and significant contributions Puerto Ricans/Hispanics have made locally in the City of Yonkers as well as nationally.
(White Plains - September 21st) Senator Stewart-Cousins celebrating the Hispanic Heritage Month at the White Plains Hispanic Day Festival. Hispanic Heritage Month began on September 15th, a time to recognize and celebrate the cultures and contributions that descendants from Mexico, Spano, the Caribbean, Central and South America have made to our country.The month-long celebration includes the Independence Days for countries including Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Columbus Day or Dia De La Raza, falls on October 12th.
(White Plains - October 8th) The Heart Gallery opened in White Plains at the public library to promote foster care opportunities in Westchester County. Senator Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Member David Buchwald joined Westchester County Social Services Commissioner Kevin McGuire and Braveheart members including Darryl McDaniels of the rap group Run DMC, who was adopted.
