The New York State Senate passed four measures today which will finally provide mandate relief across the state, and reverse New York’s long-standing practice of passing financial burdens onto local school districts.
Identified by school districts as vital to their operations and ability to budget in a prudent manner, the Democratic package will allow them to more effectively manage the resources they have, and make the best possible decisions for their communities in this time of fiscal crisis.
On Saturday, March 27th Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins presented certificates of achievement to participants of the YMCA Youth and Government Group, at a reception held at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Last year, Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins secured funding through a legislative grant to create the Youth and Government Group, comprised of students from Pleasantville High School and the Yonkers YMCA.

The Yonkers State Legislative delegation announced that the final state budget agreement avoids drastic cuts to the Yonkers Public Schools and the City of Yonkers which were originally proposed in the Executive budget.
August is Recognized as National Immunization Awareness Month
Calling it "one of the most important things you can do to prepare your child for school," State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-Westchester County) today reminded New Yorkers that as summer draws to a close, it’s time to make sure their child’s back-to-school immunizations are up to date. Immunizations protect children against serious, vaccine-preventable diseases.
The task force on alternative funding and fiscal reform for public education (“AFFIRM Ed”) was established by Senator Stewart-Cousins to address concerns of school superintendents, boards of education, teachers, parents, and residents of the 35th District regarding public education funding.
