(Yonkers- NY) On Thursday, February 18th Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, in partnership with the Municipal Housing Authority of Yonkers, held a kick off event for “Just About Me” (J.A.M.), a program created to address the unique issues facing young women in the municipal housing community.

On Thursday, March 8th, Senator Stewart-Cousins served as a panelist at the Annual International Women’s Day Luncheon at the YWCA in White Plains.
On Tuesday, May 25th, Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins was proud to honor Yonkers resident Helen Henkel as one of the New York State Senate’s Contemporary Women of Distinction. As a Contemporary Woman of Distinction, Ms. Henkel was honored for her contributions that have enriched the quality of life in our community.
Saturday evening, June 5, New York State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins delivered the keynote address at the White House Project’s annual “Go Run” civic and political leadership training for women.The multi-day program sponsored by the White House Project is part of an initiative called, “Vote, Run, Lead,” intended to engage women in the political process as voters, activists and candidates through trainings, inspiration and professional networking.
In the New York State Legislature there are a total of 212 elected positions, currently only 51 women are members of either chamber, while women make up the larger portion of New York’s population. This statistic emphasizes our need to recognize the women that have made significant contributions in the past and present while motivating more women to participate in government or become active in their individual communities in the future.
The League of Women Voters of Westchester, in collaboration with The American Association of University Women and the White Plains YWCA, sponsored the Running and Winning Workshop on Wednesday, April 17th, a day-long program for selected female students with potentiality to become great leaders. Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins was one of the elected officials who participated in this program who spoke at the event to encourage young women to run for public office someday.
